Brisbane Broncos player James Roberts has allegedly been nominated for the 2017 Frownlow Medal after allegedly pulling a woman’s hair at a nightclub recently.

The flying centre allegedly approached the woman from behind and allegedly pulled her hair before allegedly being removed from the nightclub.

The Frownlow Medal is awarded to the player whose off-field demeanour epitomises the values of the modern day footballer and draws attention to the status of footballers as role models to young Australians. It covers Australia’s four major football codes; the National Rugby League (NRL), Australian Football League (AFL), the A-League (Football) and Rugby Union’s Super Rugby competition. Kiwi international and Sydney Roosters player Shaun Kenny Dowall won the inaugural medal in 2015, while Corey Norman from the Parramatta Eels won in 2016.

This nomination is the second in as many years for the star player after he was accused of drunken abuse of a female staff member at a hotel, which earned him a $20,000 fine and a stint in a Thai rehab facility at the end of last year.

After checking out of the Thai rehab facility, he was allegedly reformed and allegedly avoiding trouble.

Roberts also divided opinion for leaving the birth of his child in order to play football for the Broncos last year and he was released by South Sydney and Penrith in previous seasons for controversial incidents, including smashing the window of a taxi.

After the alleged hair pulling incident, Roberts allegedly fell asleep in a taxi outside a McDonald’s and police allegedly bought him a burger before allegedly driving him to an apartment complex.

Police also allegedly tucked him into bed, allegedly read him a bedtime story and allegedly left the night light on.

Roberts is allegedly on his final warning with the NRL.
